HERITAGE SIGNS
Rich in history and stories, the Heights is unique in Burnaby. Close to a hundred years of history have created a bountiful legacy of stories and memories. Heritage on the Heights seeks to capture and celebrate these memories so they can be passed on to future generations.
These decorative and informative signs form a walking tour that retells many of the stories of the history of the Heights. The signs have quotes from seniors, historical photographs of the Heights, and describe some of the area's rich history.

The Heights Neighbourhood Association also participated in Gilmore School’s 90th anniversary celebrations. This included helping to fund a heritage sign in front of the school. (NE corner of Gilmore and Triumph)
REC 'N READ
A four-week intensive intervention summer literacy program that combines literacy activities in the morning, a nutritious lunch and an afternoon of recreation. The program is intended for 6- and 7- year old students who are struggling readers and who would benefit from intensive teacher support over the summer to prevent regression.
NIGHTS ALIVE
This program, held at Gilmore Community School, is offered to students in grades six & seven from five local elementary schools, to provide a wide range of recreational, educational and social opportunities for pre-teens. The goal is to provide positive, safe opportunities for this age group, in a social setting, to learn new skills and to develop leadership skills.
ROOTS OF EMPATHY
An innovative classroom program for children aged 3 - 14 years. This program involves visits to the classroom by a parent and infant. With a trained and certified instructor, children are coached to observe the infant’s development, celebrate milestones, interact with the infant and learn about its needs. The program builds more caring in the classroom and the community. When children understand how others feel, they are less likely to victimize each other through bullying. As empathy rises, aggression falls.
COMMUNICATIONS
Ongoing program to raise awareness of community issues, foster community interaction and connectedness and to promote HNA programs, events and initiatives; to promote HNA membership. Communication is accomplished in a variety of ways - HNA newsletter, brochures, website and displays.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Sponsorship of facilitated community forums to address the issues affecting the Heights Neighbourhood eg. community policing, traffic calming, neighbourhood safety, zoning issues. We hold public information sessions and all-candidates debates, giving the Neighbourhood a "voice".
The Heights Neighbourhood Association is always interested in what's happening in this community. If you have a concern or an idea for a new project please contact us.
