SUNFEST 2008
Would you like to spend your summer having fun in the sun? Sunfest is an exciting summer recreation program for children. It has been held at Gilmore Community School each summer since 1987. Each of the six weeks is a new themed adventure, featuring a main out trip, local field trips, special events and swimming. Children have the opportunity to develop skills in sports, arts and crafts, drama and cooking.
For: Children aged 5 – 13 (must have completed kindergarten)
Where: Gilmore Community School, 50 S. Gilmore Avenue, Burnaby
When: June 30th – August 8th 2008 (six one-week sessions)
Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Cost: $100 per week plus $10 program t-shirt ($80 for week 1 due to Canada Day and week 6 due to the BC Day holiday)
Note: Week 1 starts on Monday, but there will be no camp on Tuesday.
Week 6 will begin on the Tuesday following BC Day.
Sunfest staff recommends the purchase of a Sunfest 2008 t-shirt for your child as an additional safety precaution on out trips.
The Heights Neighbourhood Association and Sunfest 2008 encourages the development of a positive self-image and a sense of responsibility. The Association upholds the standard that all children respect the rights and properties of others. If this behaviour cannot be maintained, the Association reserves the right to cancel services. Our program is equipped with a 1:10 leader to child ratio. We are not equipped to assist children with special needs who require one-on-one supervision.
Registration Information
Registration is first-come, first-serve. Please note that each person may only register for no more than two families.
Where: Gilmore Community School 50 S. Gilmore Avenue, Burnaby
When: Wednesday, June 18th in the gym, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm
(Burnaby Heights families only please!)
Please do not enter the school any earlier than 5:00 pm on June 18th as there are meetings scheduled prior to Sunfest registration. The Gilmore staff appreciates your consideration.
Please come prepared with the following:
1. Fee payment (cash or cheque)
2. Doctor and dentist phone numbers
3. Emergency contact phone numbers
4. Your child’s BC CareCard number
5. Names and phone numbers of the person(s) who will be picking up your child
6. List of any allergies and/or medications

The Lost Island of Pirates
No Camp July 1st due to Canada Day!
Out trip: Watermania
Jumpstart the summer with an adventure to The Lost Island of Pirates and cool off at Watermania and its waterslides!
Week 2: July 7 – July 11
Cirque Du Sunfest
Out trip: Playland
Pump up the week with some wacky rides at Playland and wind-up with a cowboy carnival!
Week 3: July 14 – July 18
Beach Blitz!
Out trip: Canada Games pool and Sandcastle Contest Spanish Banks
Ride the waves at the pool and build your fantasy castle at the beach.
Week 4: July 21 – July 25
Mission G14 Classified
Out trip: Stanley Park and Laser Tag
Enjoy fun and games at Stanley Park and come with us on top secret missions at Laserdome!
Week 5: July 28 – August 1
Green Day
Out trip: Granville Island and Splashdown
Explore the island and kids place and cool down on the slides at Splashdown! Learn about the keeping our environment clean!
Week 6: August 5 – August 8
Ragin Rip Roarin Rapids
No Camp: August 4 (BC Day)
Out trip: Cultus Lake Water Park and more
Come slide down to Sunfest salute to summer fun!
Refund Information
Refund requests will be considered for medical reasons only, and a doctor's note is required. Other refunds will be considered only if the space is able to be filled. Refunds will be considered on an individual basis, and a $20 administration fee will be charged.
